The summer window is well underway and Mikel Arteta is out to boost his squad to give them the best chance of mounting another title charge next season.

The Gunners came close to a first Premier League title in 19 years, having finished five points behind champions Manchester City.

With City’s dominance unlikely to waver and the clubs who finished below them set to get stronger, Arsenal have launched a huge splurge and they aren’t done yet.

Arsenal’s 2023 summer recruits

  • Declan Rice [West Ham] £105m
  • Kai Havertz [Chelsea] £65m
  • Jurrien Timber [Ajax] £38m
  • David Raya [Brentford] Loan
  • Jurrien Timber’s prolonged spell on the sidelines could force Arsenal into returning to the transfer market.

The Dutchman’s ACL injury may lead the Gunners to rekindle their interest in RB Leipzig’s defender Mohamed Simakan, according to the Guardina.

The report adds that France Under-21 defender Simakan could cost in excess of £35m.

“I think Arsenal have been asleep at the wheel with regard to the monetisation of their brand,” Kieran Maguire, a football financial commentator told Football Insider. “The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool have been gold-plated in terms of their approach, with commercial and marketing departments in more than one location.“That has allowed them to access big brands and get deals over the line. After some fairly sleepy years, Stan Kroenke seems to have realised that they cannot afford to ignore a major income stream in the form of commercial revenue.

“I don’t know whether it’s the fact that his son is now more actively involved with the club or not. But Arsenal are now heading in the right direction.”

He posted on Instagram: “Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I’ve received.

“I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period.

“I’m blessed with a lot of great people around me. Together we will do anything to get back as soon and strong as possible.

“For now I’ll be supporting our team from the stands of course.

“Thanks for making me feel at home in such a short period of time, see you at The Carpet.”

The Gunners said: “Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

“Jurrien will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for a period of time.

“The support and expertise from our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focussed on Jurrien’s rehabilitation programme, to ensure he recovers well and is back playing as soon as possible.

The defender went off early during the Gunners’ win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

A club statement read: “Further to his substitution during our match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee.

“Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time.”

The Daily Mail add Timber is now set to have surgery to repair the injury and is likely to be out for a minimum of six months.

England produced a brilliant display in Sydney to beat co-hosts Australia 3-1.

Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Gunners striker Russo were on the scoresheet and the Lionesses now have the chance to claim world glory.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper joined the Gunners on loan from Brentford yesterday.

And he linked up with his new team-mates at London Colney this morning.

The Hammers are eyeing Mavropanos as an alternative to Harry Maguire after that move broke down.

And it’s a move that would work in Arsenal’s favour, too, with the Gunners negotiating a 10 per cent sell on clause when they sold the Greece international last summer.

The 25-year-old spent four years with Arsenal, signing him from Greek club PAS Giannina in 2018 for less than £2million.

Forest want the 23-year-old Portuguese in a permanent deal and have made an official offer to the Gunners, reports Fabrizio Romano.

It is claimed negotiations are still ongoing on the player’s side, but Forest are hopeful of getting the deal done.
