NFL Insider Revealed Why They Must Sanction “Overreaction” Of ‘Big-Money’ From The…

Patriots insider calls out the early overreaction to big-money addition
It’s that point in the offseason when players missing training camp for one reason or another become the focus of most conversation, including the Patriots. That is the case surrounding one of the team’s biggest free agent signings in cornerback Carlton Davis, who is yet to participate in summer practices.

Although he made his first appearance on Wednesday morning, he wasn’t suited up and on the field for some reps, but it was a good sign that he was able to make it out nonetheless. However, his continued absence is starting to worry fans about his availability for the upcoming season, especially since he has a lengthy injury history throughout his career.
Because much of the offseason chatter tends to become overreactions, there are already some suggesting the Patriots made a massive mistake investing in a player like Davis since he has yet to practice during training camp.
While concerns are certainly valid, it’s a bit premature to suggest signing the best cornerback of this year’s free agent class was a mistake, and one Patriots’ insider is swiftly shutting down that narrative in hopes of stopping it before it grows to new heights.

Carlton Davis will become a significant part of the Patriots’ defensive effort in 2025
While discussing training camp on a recent episode of the Patriots Talk podcast, NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran brought up the concerns regarding Davis’ availability, or lack thereof, over the last two weeks
He mentioned those who were already suggesting he was a bad signing. He immediately ended any concerns by revealing what he’s seen this past week from Davis to eliminate the negativity from continuing ahead of his Patriots debut.
“I have seen Carlton Davis twice in the last 24 hours, both times he was taking part in some rehab football activities, or at least was going from those activities. He was in football uniform. It’s not time to start saying it was a horrendous free agent signing.”
Considering we haven’t even seen what he can do as part of the cornerback room along with Christian Gonzalez, it’s outlandish for anyone to believe he shouldn’t have been signed, especially since he has been among the top cornerbacks in the league over the last few years
There’s a reason the Patriots were applauded for managing to bring him to New England despite the countless offers he received in free agency, and why the potential of their secondary is projected to be at the top of the league in 2025.
Sure, he hasn’t been able to participate in training camp yet, but that doesn’t mean he won’t at any point before the season begins. In fact, Curran hints it might be coming sooner rather than later, and we shouldn’t ask the team to rush his rehab just to get him out on the field. We should want to ensure he is properly healing before risking further injury, even more so now that Gonzalez will also be missing time due to a hamstring strain
The duo could be the best cornerback tandem in the league, and their returns shouldn’t be rushed by any means. It’s far too early to even mention the idea of Davis being a bust signing, so fans need to remember it’s still early in training camp and there is a lot of time left before Week 1.
