Unexpected developments in England could significantly affect Kieran Trippier of Newcastle.

Help could finally be on the way for Newcastle United and England defender Kieran Trippier.

The 33-year-old has played every minute of England’s Euro 2024 campaign so far, being deployed out of position at left-back.

Kieran Trippier has enjoyed a steady start to the tournament in Germany, but has been far from spectacular as the Three Lions fail to click into gear.

The Newcastle United player operating on his weaker side has been a bit of a problem for England, with Gareth Southgate’s side lacking an attacking outlet down the flank – especially with Phil Foden playing in front of him and drifting inside.

Kieran Trippier at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw

Trippier is having to play out of position due to Luke Shaw’s fitness problems. He is the only out-and-out left-back in the England squad, but has not kicked a ball since February.

On top of that, he has often been training on his own out in Germany, rather than with his Three Lions teammates. That has suggested that the Trippier experiment is going to continue for the foreseeable future.

However, a new update from the England camp suggests that Trippier might finally have some support coming his way.

England training update ahead of facing Slovenia

Sky Sports have reported on Monday that Luke Shaw has taken part in full England training ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Slovenia.

That is a major boost for England, who could have a full squad of players to choose from for their final group game of the Euros. A win against Slovenia will mean that the Three Lions come top of their group.

It seems likely that Trippier will remain in the starting XI, as it would be a major surprise to see Shaw start at an international tournament just 24 hours after returning to full training. But it would be positive if he could make a cameo off the bench, as it would relieve some of the pressure that Trippier is under.

Trippier has his own injury concern

It is tough for Trippier at Euro 2024, as he is forced to play out of position for the benefit of his country.

On top of that, it was reported by the Telegraph over the weekend that he has his own injury concern at the moment.

They state that the Newcastle defender has been nursing a calf injury, and was not meant to play the full 90 minutes in both of England’s games so far. However, he has had to amid the Three Lions’ struggles.

The Telegraph add that Southgate is expected to make changes to his side for Tuesday’s game against Slovenia, but whether that means Trippier gets a rest remains to be seen. Regardless, given his fitness issue and unfamiliarity at left-back, you have to imagine that Trippier will be happy to see Shaw back in training.
