Newcastle
It has been an embarrassing week for Sunderland that has culminated in them losing the Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle United.
The Magpies were dominant at the Stadium Of Light, easily winning 3-0 to secure bragging rights and a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Newcastle were expected to win, but there was always the fear that it could go terribly wrong. It was a free hit for Sunderland, although their fans were left infuriated during the buildup to the game.
First they had to deal with season ticket holders being moved out of their seat to accommodate the 6,000 Newcastle fans making the journey to Wearside, then their own bar was plastered with black and white artwork and banners. That left Sunderland supporters raging, and understandably so.
On the pitch, they did not deliver. Newcastle were dominant and strolled around the Stadium Of Light as if they owned the place, then they rubbed salt in the wounds by taking their post-victory team photo on the pitch in front of the Toon Army.
Now Newcastle have taken it one step further with an incredible tweet after the 3-0 win on Wearside.
Newcastle embarrass Sunderland with hilarious picture on X
Following Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Sunderland, the Toon social media team have posted a hilarious photo mocking their biggest rivals.
They posted a picture of the stand that Newcastle fans occupied on Saturday afternoon, where the seats spell out the words ‘haway the lads’.
However, the club photoshopped the image so it said ‘howay the lads’ instead, which was one of the changes that had been made in the Sunderland bar that went viral and enraged their supporters.
Alongside the picture, Newcastle wrote: “We’ve been made to feel right at home this week.”
Newcastle got one over on Sunderland at every opportunity
At every opportunity, Newcastle have managed to get one over on Sunderland this week. The Black Cats were the laughing stock in the buildup, and the majority of fans inside the Stadium Of Light were not laughing once the football started.
That is because Newcastle arrived and got the job done. They flexed their muscles and went about their business professionally, breezing past the second tier side like many expected.
It was a great win for the Magpies, and the social media team are certainly making the most of it!
