EXLUSSIVE: Anthony Gordon Has Finally Made His Decision

Newcastle’s pending financial moves to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson will likely secure Anthony Gordon, ending Liverpool’s transfer pursuit

After Newcastle agreed to part ways with Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, the financial decisions will seemingly allow the team to retain Anthony Gordon, effectively ending Liverpool’s attempt to swoop in for the player.

Despite their reluctance to part with the 21-year-old midfielder, Newcastle has struck an agreement to send Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest, according to The Athletic. Anderson is said to be willing to accept the move, with a medical examination expected soon to finalize the transfer.

Meanwhile, Brighton is making strides in pursuing Minteh, negotiating a £33 million deal with Newcastle for the player who impressed on loan at Feyenoord last season. These transfers are driven by the need to align with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which aim to prevent clubs from overspending and accumulating excessive debt.

Financial pressures were bearing down on Newcastle. If the club fails to meet the June 30 deadline to balance its books, it faces a potentially ten-point deduction heading into next season.

This urgency has fueled Liverpool’s interest in Gordon. Liverpool had hoped to secure a favorable deal amid Newcastle’s financial scramble. The Reds saw an opportunity in Newcastle’s need to raise funds, thinking it might lead to a club-friendly deal for the promising winger.

How ever Newcastle’s desire to include Liverpool’s rising star, Jarell Quansah, in the deal was a non-starter for the Reds, who are keen to keep hold of their young center-back. And with Newcastle now able to cash-in on Minteh and Anderson before the PSR deadline, any hopes of Gordon being available for a discounted fee are all but over for Liverpool.

Gordon made 35 appearances for Newcastle in the Premier League last season, scoring 11 goals and contributing ten assists. While the chances of Liverpool securing Gordon seem slim, the possibility still exists. If a deal is reached, Gordon, who is currently part of England’s Euro squad, would be permitted to undergo medical tests at a convenient location during the international tournament in Leipzig. Still, the young winger’s official bid has yet to be made public at Anfield.

Arne Slot is poised to replace Jurgen Klopp, who departed after nine seasons with Liverpool. Slot has expressed his ambition to contend for a Premier League championship right away, even though fans online have tempered their expectations, anticipating an adjustment period for the new manager as he settles into his role.

“I think in the end we would all love to see Liverpool a bit higher than third place and this is the challenge we are facing now – to build on from what we have,” Slot said in his first press conference with the club. “I have all the confidence in this because of the players, that we can add a few things where we hopefully can get a bit more points than 82.”
