champions league winners worried about £130,000-a-week player’s value
Manchester City are actually worried about Kalvin Phillips decreasing his value if he moves to Newcastle on loan.
That is according to Netsport.uk.
So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look…
Manchester City have Kalvin Phillips concern
Well, negotiations over a temporary deal between Manchester City and Newcastle have stalled as the Citizens demand a hefty loan fee of £7.5m – which the Magpies are hesitant to pay.
Manchester City also want Newcastle to contribute significantly to the England international’s £130,000-a-week wages.
Netsport.uk believes Manchester City are wary of seeing Phillips decrease in value if things go badly for him on Tyneside, hence the sizeable loan fee request.
Despite the disagreement between Manchester City and Newcastle, the 28-year-old himself remains very keen on a move to St James’ Park
The Chronicle add that Phillips has taken note of Eddie Howe’s work to improve the likes of Sean Longstaff, Fabian Schar, Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron.
As such, the Yorkshireman would like to take on the challenge of joining Newcastle, as he aims to resurrect his career and cement a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for UEFA EURO 2024.
Manchester City are wise to play hardball with Newcastle
In our view, Txiki Begiristain holds all the cards here, and can afford to remain firm on the club’s demands.
Newcastle are currently struggling amid a run of just one win in six Premier League games, and Howe is without a number of players through injury or suspension.
Sandro Tonali has been suspended due to betting breaches, while Joe Willock is a long term absentee.
Howe also lost Joelinton to injury against Sunderland on Saturday, so the longer these midfield options remain sidelined, the more desperate Newcastle will be to sign Phillips – who has cost Manchester City a sizeable amount for each appearance since his move from Leeds
The way things are going for the Magpies in regards to injuries, Newcastle could even lose more options in the central midfield department before transfer deadline day.
Therefore, we can certainly see Newcastle buckling to Manchester City’s demands as January goes on.
