Arsenal face big decisions over £30m Tierney deal with Newcastle, as premier league begins details now………….

Newcastle United are still in the hunt to secure the services of Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney this summer.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are one of the clubs in the race to sign Kieran Tierney in this transfer window, but Arsenal’s £30 million asking price has proved a stumbling block in negotiations so far.

Tierney has clearly fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium. He lost his place in the starting XI to Oleksandr Zinchenko last season, and was left out of the match-day squad altogether for Arsenal’s opening Premier League fixture of the new campaign against Nottingham Forest.

Summer signing Jurrien Timber started at left-back for the Gunners against Steve Cooper’s side, but was unfortunate enough to sustain a knee injury that is now likely to see him sidelined for a significant period. Takehiro Tomiyasu was brought on to replace the Dutchman on Saturday, but Arsenal now look light in that part of the pitch, with Zinchenko still short of full fitness himself.

Mikel Arteta may look to address this concern in the market, or else he could bring Tierney back into the fold to provide greater depth at left-back. If the Spanish coach opts for the latter option, then that may well put paid to Newcastle’s hopes of signing the 26-year-old.

Arsenal must make decision on Tierney.

If these hurdles can be overcome, though, then Tierney would be a great addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, with Newcastle, like Arsenal, set to compete in the Champions League this season. The Scottish defender is certainly capable of performing at that level.

If Arsenal can get their £30 million asking price for Tierney, then those funds would certainly come in useful. They may well be used to replace Tierney directly, or else invested in other areas of the squad where reinforcements would be welcome, such as midfield or in a versatile attacker.

Tierney’s sale would also help to offset some of the spending that has already gone into acquiring the likes of Timber, Kai Havertz, and Declan Rice. However, the Gunners may need to lower their demands in order to get a deal done.

In any case, when it comes to the future of the former Celtic man, there are plenty of big decisions still to be made.
