The Premier League’s transfer deadline for the January window has passed, meaning that clubs are left with their squads as they are.

The top division of English football had a relatively subdued winter market, despite splashing the cash in recent years. Few transfers passed as teams began to feel the crunch of financial fair play bearing over their shoulders.

It has left some Premier League teams looking short on numbers in some areas, while other clubs have been creative in bolstering their ranks. Those transfers could be the difference by the end of the season in May.

With that said, here’s a look at the top five transfers in January and ranking just how good they may turn out to be.

5 – Kalvin Phillips to West Ham

Despite his struggles with Manchester City, Kalvin Phillips has plenty of quality that could be an asset to any Premier League side. The midfielder joined West Ham on a loan that will help their midfield department when playing out, though no permanent option leaves the deal far from being perfect.

4 – Morgan Rogers to Aston Villa

Aston Villa looked to strengthen their options for the immediate as well as the long-term when they landed Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough. The 21-year-old impressed in the short time he spent in the north-east, showing plenty of potential that Villa will be looking to tap into.

3 – Valentin Barco to Brighton and Hove Albion

Players of Football Manager will be familiar of Valentin Barco, with the video game series believing he has the potential to be impressive at the top level. The left-back finally got his move to Europe, joining Brighton, who have an ability to develop these players into stars.

2 – Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have a proven track record of landing the next big thing from the Championship and they may have done it once again by plucking Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers. The 19-year-old has risen through the ranks and could prove himself in the Premier League.

1 – Radu Dragusin to Tottenham

Tottenham missed out on landing two centre-backs in the summer, but quickly corrected that in the winter market by landing Radu Dragusin from Genoa. The 21-year-old has shown plenty of promise and for a fee of roughly £26million, it could be a transfer snip.
