Report; Crystal Palace training as footage emerges

Oliver Glasner has wasted no time in taking a closer look at some of the best young talent at Crystal Palace.

Recent footage from the warm weather training camp in Marbella showed academy stars such as Danny Imray, Franco Umeh and Kaden Rodney among the first-team squad.

Now – after the Crystal Palace players returned to south London – another young talent has been spotted in training under Oliver Glasner…

Roshaun Mathurin involved in Crystal Palace training

Well, those Crystal Palace fans who pay close attention to developments in the academy may know Roshaun Mathurin better as Trialist B.

The 20-year-old picked up the nickname after impressing in several trial games under the tag of Trialist B.

Mathurin’s performances as Trialist B were so impressive that he was quickly offered a professional contract at Selhurst Park – following his release from Tottenham in June 2023.

Now, the winger has been spotted in training footage posted by Crystal Palace on Palace TV.

Mathurin can be seen alongside a second precocious talent in Victor Akinwale, another new prospect involving in first-team duties who did not travel to Marbella.

Clearly, Glasner is taking a good look at the talent already on Crystal Palace’s books as the 49-year-old weighs up what he needs in the transfer market this summer.

Mathurin could save Crystal Palace millions by stepping up, amid a story from A Bola in Portugal which claims that Glasner has asked Dougie Freedman to sign another winger in Sporting CP No.10 Marcus Edwards.

The Londoner has scored three goals while also providing four assists in 15 Premier League 2 appearances so far this season.

Good to see

It would be very easy for Glasner to simply lean on his experienced heads at Selhurst Park and overlook the younger talent for now – given the fact this is his first managerial role in England, and we are still yet to secure safety in the Premier League.

However, the man from Salzburg has opened his door to the academy prospects at Crystal Palace, giving them a real chance to make the step up – which is so refreshing to see after Roy Hodgson rarely showed them any interest whatsoever.

Hopefully, one of these talented youngsters can follow in the footsteps of players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrick Mitchell, and become a regular in the starting XI at Selhurst Park.
