Chelsea choose to bring up Cesare Casadei from Leicester City
Chelsea have boosted their squad by recalling midfielder Cesare Casadei from Leicester City.
Cesare Casadei had initially joined Leicester on a season-long loan, but Chelsea decided to cut it short earlier this week.
The Blues have had a lot of injuries this term, including in midfield with Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu both currently on the sidelines, and La Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that is one of the main reasons behind the club’s decision to bring the Italian back to Stamford Bridge.
Casadei made 22 appearances in the Championship for Leicester this season, scoring two goals.
Chelsea signed the 21-year-old from Inter Milan in a deal worth £16m in total.
Chelsea recalled Cesare Casadei to help with injury crisis
Chelsea have had problems with their midfield in the current campaign, largely because of injuries. On that note, bringing Casadei back to the club makes sense.
He has a bit of experience in English football now after his time at Leicester and Reading and clearly has a lot of talent.
Chelsea paid £16m for him when he was 19 after all and Italy manager Luciano Spalletti has hinted that the former Inter youngster could win his first senior cap soon.
Chelsea, with their wealth, could have always gone out and bought a new midfielder. Links with Everton’s Amadou Onana have started to emerge again.
However, by going with the Casadei option, they have saved themselves a lot of money. And the Italy U21 international was not a cheap signing for his age. Having invested more than £15m on a player who was a teenager at the time, the club might as well use him.
With Chelsea constantly picking up injuries this season, Mauricio Pochettino is probably going to have to. Ultimately, Casadei could be about to get a real chance here.
