Nottingham Forest
Nuno has now decided what to do with Forest’s goalkeeper
So, what has Espirito Santo decided to do regarding his goalkeepers at Forest? We take a closer look
Nuno Espirito Santo makes huge call on Forest goalkeepers
Well, a lot has been made this season over the goalkeeping situation at Forest – and it appears Espirito Santo is going to stick with what he’s got.
According to The Telegraph, Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos will remain as the two goalkeepers for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
Jose Sa has been linked with a move to Forest, having played under Espirito Santo before.
Turner is currently in possession of the gloves and has been since being recalled for a 1-1 draw with Wolves in December.
He made another high-profile error against Manchester United, however, to go with one he made against Liverpool in October.
His goalkeeping attributes – shot-stopping and aerial takes, aren’t too bad, according to FBRef, with Turner saving 70% of the shots he faces.
However, it’s the kicking side of things that has so often filled supporters with dread.
As for Vlachodimos, he played against Blackpool and didn’t exactly cover himself in glory on the day and Espirito Santo must now decide whether to drop him from his Forest team.
He was definitely at fault for the second goal that the Tangerines scored, with David Prutton critical of Vlachodimos.
Boss takes huge risk with huge call
With both stoppers seemingly struggling for form, this does come as a bit of a surprise.
However, it would be hard for the club to justify the spend on another goalkeeper after plunging £20 million on two in the summer.
It seems as though other areas of the squad are of more pressing concern to Espirito Santo and Forest will stick between the posts.
Turner looks likely to remain as the team’s number one and the challenge for him is to improve with his feet.
Forest might be sticking for now but it will surely be an area that Espirito Santo looks to address in the summer.
