I have never seen ‘pundit shocked at 22 years player’
Shay Given has given his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur central defender Micky van de Ven after watching him in action against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The former Manchester City goalkeeper was left stunned by the pace of Van de Ven.
So, what has Shay Given said about Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven? Let’s take a look.
Shay Given impressed by Micky van de Ven
Well, Tottenham Hotspur played out a 2-2 draw with Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League this past weekend.
Micky van de Ven was in action for Spurs. The 22-year-old Netherlands international started at the heart of the Tottenham defence alongside Cristian Romero, who played well against the Red Devils.
Van de Ven played well too, and former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given was shocked by the pace of the young centre-back.
Given said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Van de Ven back yesterday was a huge positive, wasn’t it?
“Because of how high they wanted to press, they wanted to press the opposition high up the pitch, and his pace – I have never seen a centre-half move as quick as him.”
My View: Micky van de Ven is a Tottenham Hotspur gem
In my opinion, Micky van de Ven is one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and is a star for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dutchman is one of the first names on the Spurs teamsheet when he is fit and available.
He has made 12 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham this season. The defender has scored one goal.
When Van de Ven has missed matches due to injury, Tottenham have missed him. Spurs are a better team with him in it.
Liverpool reportedly wanted to sign Van de Ven before he moved to Spurs. Virgil van Dijk rates him highly. I am not surprised by that at all.
