Coventry City contract news takes comical twist

Mark Robins has reiterated the fact that he and Coventry City “100 percent” want to keep Callum O’Hare following his match winning display against Leicester City. The 25-year-old midfielder pulled the Sky Blues level in the 79th minute and secured the full three points in stoppage time after Milan van Ewijk had put the home side in front in a thrilling end to the M69 derby at the CBS Arena.

O’Hare’s performance, which took his goal tally to six, put him back in the spotlight with every interviewer keen to ask about his future, which hangs in the balance due to the current impasse in contract negotiations.0

As it stands the club have offered the player a new contract but it appears that it’s not enough for O’Hare to sign. Asked if the club should push boat on it and give the player an offer he can’t refuse, Robins told CoventryLive: “You’ve got to wait for that. We can only do so much but we 100% want to keep him. Whatever happens it won’t be for the want of trying or the lack of wanting to do it from our part.

“Looking at characteristics of people in teams, he epitomises what we want to do. He is brave, goes after things, a good communicator, an effervescent character and has added goalscoring to it. He deserves all the plaudits he gets. We missed him greatly (when he was injured).”

He added: “If what he’s saying in the press marries up then we should be alright, shouldn’t we? I’m playing a straight bat but I have told him that if he doesn’t sign by Monday I am kidnapping him!”

When asked about his contract situation by Sky Sports, O’Hare said: “They actually offered me one but at the minute, honestly, I don’t have a clue what’s going on.

“Obviously, me and the fans have a special connection here, everyone at the club knows how much I love it here. We’ll see what happens but all I can say is I’m just gonna focus 100% here and win games. That’s all that matters really and give it all for the club.”
