Nottingham Forest to activate the purchase option for defender
Nuno Espirito Santo is now keen for Nottingham Forest to activate the purchase option for defender Gonzalo Montiel.
That is according to Argentina La Seleccion.
So, what is the situation regarding Forest and Gonzalo Montiel? Let’s take a closer look…
Forest now want to sign Gonzalo Montiel on permanent deal
It would appear that Forest have now made a sizeable U-turn on Montiel and his future could now be set in stone at the City Ground.
Under Steve Cooper, the player was struggling to make matchday squads and it had been claimed that Montiel would return to Sevilla.
According to Argentina La Seleccion, Espirito Santo has been impressed with the World Cup winner and wants Forest to sign him.
A deal has already been agreed in the way of a fee. Forest will need to pay Sevilla around £9.5 million to sign Montiel on a permanent basis.
The man who won the Europa League last season has been sublime under Espirito Santo; starting all but one of the games he’s taken charge of and claiming two assists.
Signing Montiel makes a lot of sense
In our minds, this one is a no-brainer for Forest. Montiel has proven that he’s got what it takes to star in the Premier League.
The Argentine appears to be thriving under regular football and at 26-years-old, he’s at a nice age to keep improving.
Montiel is still getting up to speed with Forest in the Premier League. At the moment he’s striving for consistency but there has been enough evidence of his quality just lately.
A fee of £9.4 million is hardly going to break the back. With that in mind, it makes perfect sense to get this deal over the line and free up another loan space within the squad.
Montiel looks like he’s managed to impress Espirito Santo at Forest. Now, the club must do right by the manager and make his City Ground deal permanent.
