Andrey Santos on a deal to newcastle
Newcastle United want to sign Andrey Santos
Well, according to journalist Ben Jacobs in his Si Phillips Talks Chelsea column, Newcastle United want to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Santos is on loan at Nottingham Forest at the moment. The 19-year-old Brazil international defensive midfielder made the move to the Reds from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
The teenager is not getting playing time at the City Ground, and journalist Jacobs has reported that Newcastle have already enquired about the possibility of signing him on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window. It is likely that the midfielder’s loan deal with Forest will be terminated this month.
Jacobs has noted that although Sandro Tonali is suspended, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe does have other options available to him in midfield.
So, Chelsea might not fancy sending Santos on loan to St. James’ Park only for him not to play like at Forest.
There is another potential hurdle. Newcastle already have Lewis Hall on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. The Magpies cannot sign another player on a loan deal from the Blues
My View: Nottingham Forest should let Andrey Santos leave
In my view, Nottingham Forest should just terminate the loan deal with Chelsea for Andrey Santos and just let him leave in January.
Santos has failed to make an impact at Forest, and I do not see that changing at all in the coming weeks and months.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League for the Reds this season. He has played once in the Carabao Cup for Forest.
Yes, Nuno is now the Forest manager, but I do not see the former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager suddenly giving chances to a 19-year-old who has made 23 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Yes, Forest have won their last two Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Manchester United, but let us not forget that they are still only five points above the relegation zone.
