Jonjo Shelvey has finally surprised Newcastle after years of trying

Jonjo Shelvey has done it at last!

Some ten months after leaving Newcastle United.

Jonjo Shelvey attempted it a fair few times when in black and white.

Even came close a few times.

Yes, five minutes into his eighth appearance for Rizespor, after joining on loan two months ago (see below).

The former Newcastle United midfielder scoring his first goal in Turkey, against Istanbulspor, from inside his own half!

We saw him regularly attempt it for NUFC but Jonjo Shelvey couldn’t manage it.

In fact, Jonjo Shelvey hasn’t had a goal of any kind in 22 months until now.

His most recent goal came on January 22, 2022—that vital or crucial strike—when, at Elland Road, Newcastle United defeated Leeds United 1-0 thanks to a less-than-spectacular free-kick (see photo above). After that win, Newcastle United went on a run of seven games, six of which ended in victories and one in a draw. Suddenly, the team went from looking like relegation fodder to almost assured safety.

The Mag, Sept. 14, 2023:

Nottingham Forest has lost Jonjo Shelvey.

Just eight months have passed since the midfielder left Newcastle United to relocate to Turkey.

Forest disclosure (see below) Çaykur Rizespor and Jonjo Shelvey have agreed on a season-long loan.

Official statement from Nottingham Forest, September 14, 2023:

After spending the entire season on loan at Turkish Süper Lig team Çaykur Rizespor, Jonjo Shelvey has returned.

After moving from Newcastle United to Forest in January, the midfielder has made eight appearances for the team.

The 31-year-old is now on loan to Rizespor in Turkey, where he finished sixth in the Turkish Süper Lig standings after being promoted from the second level the previous year.

We wish Jonjo the best for the remainder of the campaign.

It was brilliant business done by Newcastle United in January, moving on Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood.

Clearly neither a perfect fit for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side / squad moving forward.

Not only getting two of the club’s highest earners off the books but also banking considerable transfer fees from Nottingham Forest.

What an inspired move it was especially, when Newcastle United managed to move on Jonjo Shelvey.

Jonjo Shelvey with abysmal form for Forest last season, making eight appearances that brought six defeats and two draws.

After such startling performance, Jonjo Shelvey and manager Steve Cooper got into a fight, and Shelvey missed all seven of Forest’s Premier League games in the last season and the first two of this one.

Jonjo Shelvey is in dire need of a way out.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, who is generally quite trustworthy, Jonjo Shelvey is almost certain to sign with Turkish club Rizespor.

The former Newcastle United midfielder wasn’t included in the 25 man Forest Premier League squad named today.
