Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou issues update ahead of Chelsea game

Destiny Udogie, a defender for Tottenham, is still doubtful for Monday’s highly anticipated London derby against Chelsea.

The left-back, who has been among the Premier League’s top players thus far this season, was left off the field completely at Crystal Palace and was substituted before the hour mark in the match against Fulham last week.

Spurs will be keen to have Udogie fit for the visit of Chelsea, with the matter made more urgent as deputy left-back Ben Davies is not expected to be fit for the game after picking up a knock.

“We will see how he progresses,” manager Ange Postecoglou told the club’s media channels. “He still has a few days before Monday’s game, he’s progressing good. We will assess it closer [to the time].

“Everyone else is OK, though Ben Davies also has a bit of a knock and hasn’t trained with the team yet so he is unlikely for Monday. Still, though, a couple days to go.”

One of the Premier League’s most hotly contested derbies is on Monday, and Mauricio Pochettino’s hiring at Chelsea has only increased the tension.

It will be Pochettino’s first time visiting Spurs as an opposing manager following his dismissal from the team over five years ago.
