Leicester City’s eighth consecutive league victory allowed them to go eight points clear at the top of the Championship table, defeating a resolute Sunderland team.

James Justin leapt highest at the near post to meet a corner with a towering header to put the hosts ahead early on.

Twice goalkeeper Anthony Patterson pushed Leicester efforts on to the post as they searched for a second before half-time, first foiling Stephy Mavididi before getting a touch on a Kelechi Iheanacho shot.

Just before halftime, Wout Faes appeared to bring down Daniel Neil with a sliding tackle, which led to the contentious denial of a penalty kick for Sunderland.

After the break, Patterson kept up the pressure on the hosts with big saves from Cesare Casadei, but the Black Cats were unable to score an equalizer and lost for the third straight game, dropping them to ninth in the standings.
