Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds draw 0-0 in Premier League clash at Selhurst Park

In their final game before the break, Nottingham Forest played to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace, suffering their second consecutive stalemate. The Reds knew going into the game that Taiwo Awoniyi, their striker, would miss a month of action. But in the capital, they still had the better early chances.

With 15 minutes remaining, Harry Toffolo collected the ball well from a corner and pushed Sam Johnstone into a good save. Then, not long after, Morgan Gibbs-White came even closer, missing the goal with a first-time shot after a wonderful Murillo pass.

A fantastic run by Murillo on the verge of halftime resulted in a double save being made. But just a few minutes earlier, the Reds had to stop Jesurun Rak-Sakyi with the help of a critical block from Toffolo.

Substitute Gonzalo Montiel had a shot deflected behind on the hour mark, before Jean-Philippe Mateta missed a golden opportunity for the hosts moments later.

Both sides had chances in the closing stages, with Matt Turner thwarting Jordan Ayew and Montiel going close again, but neither team could force a breakthrough.

Matt Turner: Didn’t have too many saves to make, but will be particularly pleased with the clean-sheet after a difficult time of it last time out. Rating: 6.5/10

Serge Aurier: Seemed to pick up an injury in the first half. Carried on for a bit before coming off at half-time. Forest will hope it is nothing serious, given they already have two full-backs sidelined. Rating: 7/10

Willy Boly: A pretty solid defensive display from the centre-back again. A promising partnership with Murillo and had a headed chance at the other end of the pitch. Rating: 8/10

Murillo: Would have been a goal of the season contender if his first half effort had gone in – it was some run by the Brazilian. Absolutely no doubt he’s a proper talent. Rating: 8.5/10

Harry Toffolo: Deserved to start after last weekend’s cameo appearance. Almost marked it with a terrific early goal, too – he certainly hit it sweetly from range. Rating: 7.5/10

Orel Mangala: Midfield combination worked really well in the first half and certainly has potential. The Belgian worked hard throughout. Looked like he was forced off with a touch of cramp. Rating: 7.5/10

Nicolas Dominguez: A relief for the Reds that he got the green light to start after being forced off last weekend. Tenacious in the middle of the park and showed some nice touches. Rating: 8/10

Ibrahim Sangare: Seems to be settling in more. Made some good driving runs and competed well in the first half. The visitors lost control in the second half, though. Rating: 7.5/10

Callum Hudson-Odoi: Had some bright moments and was involved in some nice link-up play, but couldn’t quite stamp his influence on the game. Final third continues to be something for Forest to work on. Rating: 6.5/10

Chris Wood: Forest must figure out how to fill the vacuum left by Awoniyi’s absence due to injury. Despite their excellent performance, they didn’t really produce anything for Wood to eat. 6 out of 10

With an outstanding effort, Morgan Gibbs-White challenged Murillo for a goal that was almost a contender for goal of the season. It’s unfortunate that his initial attempt bounced off the post. Score: 6.5/10

Gonzalo Montiel (46 minutes): Several times after entering the game in the second half, came close to scoring. 7 out of 10

Anthony Elanga (66 minutes) for Hudson-Odoi Despite his best efforts, he wasn’t quite able to give Forest the spark that they required to score a goal. Score: 6.5/10

Ryan Yates (76 minutes), on for Sangare It was good to see him back on the field, and he gave the midfield a little more bite. 7 out of 10
