Newcastle fans chant during 8-0 win against Sheffield United
The Newcastle United fans were in fine voice during the Magpies’ 8-0 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon.
As each goal went in, the Newcastle fans got louder, and the Sheffield United fans got quieter. That was largely down to so many leaving before the full time whistle, and Toon legend Alan Shearer has paid tribute to those who stuck it out.
It was a humiliating afternoon for the Blades, but it was an absolute party in the away end. The sold out Toon Army were in fine voice, just days after a lot of them were in Milan supporting the club in the Champions League.
They watched Eddie Howe‘s side struggle inside the San Siro, but they did enough to earn a point. It was a different story at Bramall Lane, where Newcastle were rampant.
Newcastle had one chance to score against AC Milan, but the opportunities were relentless on Sunday. Attack after attack led to the Magpies scoring eight goals without response.
It was an incredible afternoon for the travelling Toon Army, who debuted a new chant at Bramall Lane – or at least a remix of a previous song.
Newcastle fans chant about their upcoming trip to Germany in the Champions League
Since Newcastle’s journey to Wembley earlier this year, Toon fans have constantly been telling their mothers that they will not be home for tea.
First it was because they were going to Wembley, then it was Italy. Both those trips have been and gone, meaning Newcastle need a new destination to sing about.
Luckily, they’ve got one.
Midway through the first half, Newcastle fans sang: “Tell me Ma, me Ma, I won’t be home for tea, we’re going to Germany, tell me Ma, me Ma.”
Newcastle United fans will be off to Germany soon with the Magpies taking on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Eddie Howe’s side play at Signal Iduna Park on November 7th.
The ‘tell me Ma’ chant is loved by Toon fans, so it is great to see that it has another incarnation after the Milan trip. Expect to hear it belted out home and away from now up until the game in just over seven weeks’ time.
