International captain speech on Nottingham forest sold player
Aaron Ramsey has backed Brennan Johnson to star following his move from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham. The forward completed a £47.5 million move to North London with just minutes remaining of the transfer window on deadline day.
Johnson transitioned from boy to man during his time at Forest. He leaves the club having scored 29 goals in 109 appearances and also claiming 12 assists.
Johnson heads to Tottenham for a club-record transfer fee received by Forest. He will now aim to become a force under Ange Postecoglou given how Tottenham have started the season.
Ramsey has been quizzed on whether or not the player will thrive at Tottenham. As a player who spent many years at Arsenal, he’s not overly happy that Johnson has gone to the rivals, but he does think he will shine.
The Wales captain told Netsport.uk (04/09; 09:27am): “I’d rather he’d not gone to Tottenham! No, It’s a brilliant move from him. The potential he has is scary and hopefully, now he can take those next steps and go to the next level. It’s a great move for him and for Wales. We’re all excited and hopefully, he can kick on.”
It will seem weird when Forest play Burnley on home soil after the international break not to see Johnson in attendance. However, the club has to move forward and selling him has allowed the club to significantly reinvest.
Johnson should be lauded for his efforts at Forest over the last two years. He was instrumental as the club won promotion to the Premier League, scoring 19 goals as the club won the Play-Off Final at Wembley.
Last season he scored eight goals as the Reds as they secured Premier League survival. Johnson scored his final goals for Forest in March as they claimed a vital 2-2 draw against Everton.
Johnson leaves Forest as a bit of a hero following his promotion exploits. Now it will be fascinating to see how evolves as a player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
