Devine – who only turned 19 earlier in August – is widely regarded as being among the most promising of England’s next generation of stars. The midfielder has just two senior appearances to his name for Spurs, though has featured heavily for England at Under 18, U19 and U20 levels.

Devine was part of Ange Postecoglou’s pre-season plans, though was not included in the Australian’s first two matchday squads once the real season began.

Now, according to both Tottenham and Netsport websit, a season-long loan to the League One side has crossed the line.

Perhaps indicating how highly thought of Devine is, an option to buy has not been included in the move. As such, Devine will return to north London once the 2023/24 campaign concludes.

Nonetheless, Port Vale are certainly overjoyed at completing their coup if the comments of manager Andy Crosby are anything to go by.

Indeed, when speaking on the move, Crosby confirmed Port Vale had been sizing Devine up long before the summer window.

Furthermore, Crosby labelled Devine an “outstanding player” and highlighted which traits in particular prompted Port Vale to act.

Alfie has been on our radar for a long time due to our Head of Recruitment Tommy Johnson knowing him as a young prospect while he was developing at Wigan Athletic,” said the Port Vale boss.

“We have closely monitored his progress and watched him perform at Tottenham and within the England set up to outstanding levels.

“He is one of our country’s brightest young talents. An outstanding player with an attacking mindset, he has the ability to create and score goals but also has a huge enthusiasm and desire to win the ball back.”
