OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED: Bryce Huff Traded to San Francisco 49ers
Eagles Defensive End Heads West in Key Offseason Move
PHILADELPHIA, PA / SANTA CLARA, CA โ It’s official: The Philadelphia Eagles will not roll into the 2025 NFL season with defensive end Bryce Huff on their roster. The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers have officially completed a trade that sends the veteran pass rusher out west to join the 49ers, pending a physical.
The highly anticipated move, which was reportedly in the works, became official on Monday, June 2nd, following the NFL’s June 1st date that allows for more favorable salary cap implications for trading teams. The Eagles will receive a mid-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in exchange for Huff.
Bryce Huff, who signed a significant three-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles in March 2024 after a breakout season with the New York Jets, spent just one season in Philadelphia. In his time with the Eagles, he appeared in 12 games (six starts) and recorded 2.5 sacks. His performance didn’t quite meet the high expectations set by his previous 10-sack campaign with the Jets in 2023.
The trade to San Francisco will reunite Huff with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who was his head coach during his most productive years with the Jets. This reunion is expected to help Huff return to his elite pass-rushing form, providing the 49ers with another dynamic edge presence alongside star Nick Bosa. The Eagles, meanwhile, will absorb a portion of his guaranteed salary, but the trade frees up valuable cap space and allows them to move forward with other defensive line options.
The move marks a significant shift for both franchises as they finalize their rosters for the upcoming 2025 season.
