Celtic told to sign striker who gave England a fright at Euro 2024

Celtic will undoubtedly look to strengthen the first team in the summer window.

Brendan Rodgers has already admitted as such and after the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic to Rennes, the Hoops boss still needs to reinforce his front line.

Daizen Maeda has picked up the goalscoring mantle from his fellow countryman and has 33 goals to his name for Celtic this season.

However, if the Japan forward was ever to get injured, Celtic’s strength-in-depth looks shaky all of a sudden and that is a position Rodgers must fill.

And to help the Celtic manager address that, Lubomir Moravcik has told Rodgers there is a player in his homeland who can do a job for the Parkhead club.

Lubomir Moravcik says Celtic would be ‘a good move’ for David Strelec

David Strelec is a name that has been linked to Celtic since the January transfer window opened.

After Celtic were told it would cost upwards of £5m to land the Slovakian international, Moravcik reckons it would be a price worth paying for the 27-cap striker.

Moravcik told The Sunday Post, “There are many stories about David and clubs are looking at him.

“He has scored 18 goals this season and he was out injured for two or three months.

“Right now, I have no idea where he will end up but, if he does go to Celtic, I think it would be a good move for the club and the player.

“David has the capabilities to score goals for Celtic. He knows his way to goal, for sure. He’d score a minimum 20 goals for Celtic in a season.

“He is a quality striker and has a presence.

“I am proud of my contribution to Celtic and I had the time of my life in my four years there.

“He shows that every week in Slovakia. He also shows it for his country and he played very well against England in the Euros last summer.”

Strelec helped Slovakia give England a fright at Euro 2024 after he created an assist for the opening goal in the last-16 clash at Wembley.

Slovakia were seconds away from knocking Gareth Southgate’s team out of the tournament after Jude Bellingham popped up in the 90+5th minute to equalise.

Harry Kane sent England through after his goal in the first minute of extra-time took the hosts through to the quarter-finals.
