Watch Video: Aryna Sabalenka Makes Cheeky Comment On Porsche Car After Loss To Jelena Ostapenko; “I want to…
Stuttgart saw a thrilling match between World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko. Sabalenka entered the match as the favourite, but Jelena Ostapenko, the tournament’s unseeded player who completed an incredible run to the final, had other ideas.
Sabalenka led the head-to-head against Ostapenko 3–0 having beaten her in their most recent encounter at the 2024 Rome quarterfinals, where Sabalenka won 6–2, 6–4. Ostapenko looked dialed in from the minute zero, and although the first set was a tight affair with both players having similar winners to unforced errors count, Ostapenko found the perfect time in the match to break Sabalenka,
The second set was a more of a one-sided affair, with Sabalenka completely losing here range and Ostapenko carrying on her momentum from the set one. Ostapenko did not seem to look back and calmly finished off the finals with a 6-1 final score in the set.
Both players who are known for their aggressive baseline play and powerful groundstrokes, have very similar game styles and auras. Sabalenka’s serve however did not work its charms and Ostapenko easily broke through her defenses and seemed much more relaxed on the big occasion.
She finished off the match with a clean forehand cross-court winner to clinch her first clay court title of the year. Sabalenka, who really had her eyes set on the Porsche car, was left disappointed that she couldn’t carry her good form of the season into the finals and drive home the brand new car.
The handshake at the net by Sabalenka was cold, to say the least, and several fans found it disrespectful.
After her battle, Sabalenka stated that the only option for her to obtain the car was to book one.
“I want to congratulate Jelena and her team,” said Sabalenka. “Enjoy driving this beautiful car, I’m glad I can afford this car,” she added cheekily. “After this final I’m going to order one because this is the only way for me.”
