Carlos Alcaraz believes he has no objections to face Novak Djokovic at the French Open, but emphasises that it is still too early to speculate on whether they would meet in the year’s second Grand Slam event.

Alcaraz, 21, and Djokovic, 37, faced off for the first time in the Australian Open in early 2025. While the third-ranked Spaniard was favoured entering the match, the 37-year-old emerged victorious 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 in their quarterfinal showdown at Melbourne Park.

Considering how they started their respective clay seasons – the Spaniard won the Monte Carlo Masters final while Serb suffered a shock opening loss to Alejandro Tabilo – there is no doubt that the 21-year-old would be favored if they played today.

Alcaraz: It may be amazing to play Djokovic in the French Open

“It’s always great playing against Novak, because it’s always tough against him, you can see what is his level. Could be great, why not? Super far away until that moment happens, a lot of things can happen during the tournament or during the week before, so let’s see,” the reigning French Open champion said.

After spraying 29 unforced errors in a poor display against Tabilo, Djokovic slammed his performance as “horrible” and even issued an apology. When asked about his goal for this part of the year, the Serb underlined it’s the French Open. Also, he noted that he would try to do what he could to reach his top form by mid-May.

It’s no secret that the fifth-ranked Serb has become prone to unexpected setbacks. But at this year’s Australian Open, he delivered, and if not for an untimely accident, he could have easily won his 25th Grand Slam championship.

It will be intriguing to watch whether an Alcaraz-Djokovic encounter takes place at the French Open.
