Demolition job: Carlos Alcaraz smashes Quentin Halys in his Indian Wells opener

Carlos Alcaraz was relentless in his presentation at Indian Wells 2025. The defending champion gave no chance to his rival, Quentin Halys, defeating him 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour of play. In the third round, Denis Shapovalov will be his opponent.

The day of Carlos Alcaraz’s debut in the 2025 edition of the traditional Indian Wells tournament has arrived. The ATP No. 3 arrives in California with little experience since he has only participated in three competitions in the recent season

After the defeat against Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the Spaniard took a few days to rest, returning to competition in Rotterdam.

In the Netherlands Carlitos showed his best version, and in his first presentation in the tournament he would end up proclaiming himself as the new champion;

The last competition in which Alcaraz participated prior to Indian Wells was the Qatar Open, where Jiri Lehecka surprised him in the quarterfinals in an unusual match. Since that defeat, the Spaniard has not participated in any other official event.

His rival, Quentin Halys, arrives to Tennis Paradise with a lot of competition so far this year, achieving his best result in Dubai, where he reached the semifinals. This would be the first clash between the Europeans.

First Set

The match started with Alcaraz very involved, pressuring his opponent’s serve from the beginning. On the other hand, the player from Murcia was not so good with his serve, hitting less than half of his first serves. However, that would not be a problem, as Alcaraz did not give up a single break point in the set;

In the 3rd game, the defending champion attacked and took his opponent’s serve and from that moment on he kept the advantage. When it was his turn to serve 5-4, Alcaraz was relentless for the Frenchman and closed the set.

Second Set

Halys would start the second set on serve, which for Alcaraz was an invitation to continue putting pressure on his opponent, taking advantage of the good moment with which he closed the set. In that same game, the player from Murcia broke his opponent again, won his serve and broke again: in the blink of an eye he took a 3-0 lead that indicated that Halys’ time in Indian Wells was coming to an end.

The Frenchman would eventually win only two of his service games, manhandled by a spicy Alcaraz, taking the return ahead, taking time off his opponent’s response;

Finally it would be Alcaraz’s victory by 6-4 and 6-2. Denis Shapovalov awaits the Spaniard in the next round of the Californian tournament.
