Chris Davies confirms two cruel Birmingham City injury blows and gives Keshi Anderson latest
Birmingham City winger Scott Wright will play no part in the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury
Scott Wright won’t play any part in Birmingham City’s end-of-season run-in – and Lyndon Dykes face a fight to feature again.
The Scottish duo suffered injuries in Blues’ 0-0 draw with Reading on Saturday. Wright got his studs caught in the turf at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and twisted his knee early on, while Dykes pulled up on the run with a calf injury in the second half.
Both players now face a stint on the sidelines, but the outlook is bleaker for Wright whose first campaign with Blues has concluded at 20 appearances.
“Sadly Scott Wright is a longer-term knee injury, which is a real blow,” Blues boss Chris Davies said. “I’m sorry for Scott that that’s happened because he has had some big moments for us this season.”
Dykes could yet play again this season, but the 29-year-old is expected to miss the Vertu Trophy final having scored the goal that sealed Blues’ place in the Wembley showdown on April 13.
Davies added: “Hopefully we can see him before the end of this season. I would call it a medium term injury, not a quick turnaround but there’s definitely a route back for him to get back before the end of this season and contribute. We’ll miss him.
“I don’t know whether the cup final might come too soon. I’m not qualified to give that definitive answer but it sounds like the cup final might come too soon. Even after the cup final, there’s probably five league games so can he get back and help us in that period would be the question.”
Keshi Anderson, meanwhile, missed Blues’ 2-0 win over Leyton Orient with a hamstring complaint. It looks as though Anderson will miss the match with title rivals Wycombe Wanderers this weekend. Davies added: “We will see how Keshi is in the next week or so.”
