Wolves Spoke Angrily: Even In My Grave When I Am Dead I Will Still Be Very “Unhappy” With The Decision, Here Is My Reason…
Wolves faced off in the Premier League against Bournemouth on Saturday and one key decision changed the complexion of the match.
Wolves have a great away record against Bournemouth, although Vitor Pereira knew the challenge at hand was going to be difficult.
The Cherries came into this game flying in fifth position, only a point behind fourth-place Manchester City, while the Old Gold were two points above the bottom three.
Following Leicester City’s 4-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday night, this game presented an opportunity for Wolves to pull clear of danger.
But whilst Wolves fans would have been worried about Stuart Attwell being named on VAR duty after his error in this fixture last season, he made one decision that swung the clash in the visitor’s favour.
Why Illia Zabarnyi was sent off vs Wolves
The game at the Vitality Stadium was free-flowing with both sides forcing the respective goalkeepers into making some saves.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was forced into an exceptional save by Nelson Semedo’s left-footed strike while Jose Sa was on call to deny the hosts.
However, the pendulum truly swung in Wolves’ favour when Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi was sent off for a reckless challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Initially, though, referee Michael Salisbury handed the Ukraine international a yellow card before VAR overturned the decision to a red card, deeming it to be a reckless challenge.
VAR deemed the contact of the challenge on Ait-Nouri to be ‘high and dangerous’, which understandably saw the hosts reduced to 10 men.
Last season, Bournemouth beat Wolves 1-0 in April 2024 but the victory happened in controversial circumstances.
Hwang Hee-chan’s goal was ruled out as Matheus Cunha’s foul on Justin Kluivert in the build-up was seen as a clear and obvious error.
However, replays showed that there was barely any contact from the Brazilian, with the Wanderers denied a point in cruel circumstances.
Now, Attwell has somewhat redeemed himself on VAR duty by turning the yellow card to red, much to the delight of the Wolves fanbase.
