Ruud van Nistelrooy confirms exciting January transfer plan for Leicester City
Ruud van Nistelrooy has broken his silence on what he intends to do in the January transfer window.
The Leicester City manager is looking to turn the side’s fortunes around in the second half of the season and guide them out of the relegation zone.
The Foxes’ next match is a tough away tie against Aston Villa, followed by three home games against QPR (FA Cup), Crystal Palace, and Fulham.
And while the team’s next set of fixtures are all winnable games on paper, van Nistelrooy has acknowledged his need to bring in reinforcements if he is to secure the club’s top-flight status
Ruud van Nistelrooy will use footballing connections to bolster Leicester City
Admitting during a recent press conference that he intends to use his vast network of footballing connections, van Nistelrooy, whose senior playing career spanned 15 years and included spells with clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United, confirmed his transfer plans.
It’s good that you will look at our squad, and where the injuries are at the moment, and make your conclusions,” the Foxes boss said.
“Internally we have made decisions on where we want to do it. Of course, I’m looking at my network, having played in a couple of countries and for more clubs. It’s important to use my network in opportunities to strengthen the squad. We’re looking at all possibilities to help the team reach its target. We’re looking everywhere.”
Although the likes of Micah Richards think Leicester City will be relegated, van Nistelrooy is determined to prove his side’s critics wrong
Dutchman hints Foxes’ defence area of weakness
During his press conference, the former PSV manager also explained how an almost-winless run of results in December revealed which positions need strengthening.
“December gave a clear view for me in which positions the team needs help and improvement,” the Dutchman added.
“You can also look at injuries, what we have and how long they are out for. That’s a part of where we want to strengthen. But it’s important to keep that behind closed doors because we don’t want to weaken ourselves to do business.”
Having conceded 15 goals throughout December, it is obvious defence is an area of weakness so it comes as little surprise to see defenders heavily linked.
Atalanta’s Ben Godfrey is a transfer option with Manchester United youngster Harry Amass also linked with Leicester City.
There remains some work to be done before either player can complete a switch to the King Power though.
