One thing hasn’t happened at Leicester City in 56 days, Ruud van Nistelrooy must change that vs Man City

Leicester City go head-to-head with Manchester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes are looking to get their campaign back on track following three very heavy defeats in the Premier League.

Leicester City were smashed 4-0 by Newcastle United before shipping three goals to both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.

This has seen Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side drop into the relegation zone for the first time since the Dutchman replaced Steve Cooper in the dugout at the King Power Stadium.

With Wolves seemingly experiencing a new manager bounce – most recently beating Manchester United – it’s imperative Leicester turn their form around as soon as possible.

Normally, beating Manchester City is almost impossible for a side like the Foxes, but with just one win in five, the Sky Blues are not their usually unstoppable selves.

However, if Leicester are to stand any chance of causing an upset on Sunday, Van Nistelrooy must do one thing.

James Justin hasn’t been dropped by Leicester City in 56 days

One of Leicester’s biggest problems in 2024/25 is the sheer number of goals they concede.

No side has shipped more than the Midlands outfit in the Premier League this term (Wolves also 40).

And one of the main reasons for this has been the dismal form of full-back James Justin.

Justin was the lowest-rated Leicester player when they conceded three in the defeat to relegation rivals Wolves.

And his awful form carried over into Boxing Day as well, with his display making it clear the Foxes must sign a new full-back in January.

Despite his continued struggles, however, Justin has not been dropped in any competition for 56 days.

He was last left on the bench by Cooper in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on November 2nd and Van Nistelrooy must now do the same against Manchester City.

Who can replace James Justin for Leicester City vs Manchester City

Ricardo Pereira is injured four months after picking up an issue in November, meaning there is no natural replacement for Justin at right-back currently.

However, Hamza Choudhury can and previously has operated on the right of a back four and while he wasn’t great when starting in midfield versus Newcastle, it’s worth taking a chance on him at right-back against Man City.

Van Nistelrooy already knows what he will get from Justin and given his recent displays, gambling on Choudhury playing well out of position is certainly something he should consider trying on Sunday.

19-year-old Jayden Joseph, who is a natural right-back, could also be promoted to the senior team and given a run-out against the Manchester outfit.
