Finally The “Hidden” January Transfer Of Birmingham City Has Revealed, Chris Davies Has given His…

Birmingham City reportedly eyeing move for ex-England winger as Wrexham promotion race set to heat up in 2025

Wrexham look set to end 2024 in the League One promotion mix as the January window looms for Phil Parkinson.

Christmas is almost here and Wrexham are looking to finish 2024 on a high.

Promotion to League One was a huge success for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson now sits third in the table.

Wrexham are just behind Birmingham City and surprise leaders Wycombe Wanderers at the top of League One.

Ryan Reynolds wants another Wrexham promotion and that is not out of the question – despite a disappointing draw with Cambridge United on Saturday.

Parkinson will hope for January additions to boost Wrexham’s hopes but promotion rivals Birmingham may already have a significant signing in mind.

Birmingham City target ex-England ace amid Wrexham promotion battle

The Blues spent massively over the summer in an attempt to win immediate promotion back to the Championship.

Wrexham’s spending is often compared to Birmingham’s but the Blues spent much more than Wrexham over the summer; even the fee for Jay Stansfield alone dwarfed Wrexham’s outlay.

Wrexham want to spend on a new striker in January but Birmingham appear to be targeting a significant addition of their own.

The Sun report that Birmingham want to sign Burnley winger Nathan Redmond and bring him back to St Andrews.

Redmond hails from Birmingham and came up through the club’s youth ranks before being sold to Norwich City in 2013.

A former England international, winger Redmond was a Premier League player last season but has yet to feature for Burnley this term.

Injuries have been a problem this season but Redmond is far from finished at just 30 and could cause plenty of problems for League One defenders.

Birmingham spending on a different planet to Wrexham

This again shows what Wrexham are up against at the top of the table with Birmingham pretty much the only club in League One who could realistically sign Redmond.

This isn’t a hard-luck story on Wrexham’s part; Wrexham are able to outspend most League One clubs and there are many teams who would love to spend the kind of money Wrexham spend.

Not many League One sides could have signed Arthur Okonkwo or George Dobson over the summer and not many could have lured Ollie Rathbone away from Rotherham United either.

Birmingham are ready to spend on a different level to most Championship clubs though, never mind League One teams.

We are sure that Wrexham have some significant targets in mind for January too, but it would be difficult to match the signing of Redmond.

Birmingham are leaving nothing to chance and will view Redmond as a proven difference-maker who can help secure one of those automatic promotion spots.

Wrexham will continue battling Birmingham in the promotion race but unless there is big money to spend after the Allyn family invested in Wrexham, the Blues are almost on a different planet with what they can – and will – spend and that may leave just the one automatic spot for Wrexham to focus on in 2025.
