Three centre-backs Leicester City could target in January including star of interest to Manchester City

Leicester City have a pretty poor defensive record and are looking to address that issue in January.

The Foxes were simply woeful under Steve Cooper and while they have seen an uptick in form since Ruud van Nistelrooy came in, the defensive frailties still remain.

Leicester City conceded twice to Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend and shipped one to West Ham United earlier in December.

Ahead of their trip to Newcastle United, the Foxes have managed to keep just one clean sheet in 15 matches – conceding 30 goals in total.

Rav van den Berg

While signing Championship players without any Premier League experience can be risky, there is no denying the quality of Rav van den Berg.

The Dutchman is a versatile centre-back who can operate comfortably at right and left-back as well.

The 20-year-old won Middlesbrough’s Player of the Year during his first season at the club and is already attracting interest from the Premier League.

LCN are aware that Manchester City have shown an interest in Van den Berg but he will not come cheap, as we understand Boro will want in excess of £20m for their star defender.

Eiran Cashin

Eiran Cashin is a product of Derby County’s academy and has spent his entire career to date with the Championship side.

The 23-year-old has featured 18 times this season and been sorley missed in the few games he has been absent from.

Derby are unlikely to be too keen to sell one of their best players, but given their lack of funds, Paul Warne could be forced into a sale if Leicester produce a decent offer.

Anel Ahmedhodzic

The final centre-back Leicester should look to bring in next month is Anel Ahmedhodzic.

Despite their two-point deduction, Sheffield United are top of the Championship right now and Ahmedhodzic is a key reason why.

He has made 14 league appearances in 2024/25, helping the Blades concede just 11 goals – the second-best defensive record in the division.

Granted, Sheffield United may not be too keen to part with him in the middle of a promotion push, but the lure of the Premier League could convince him to leave.
