Sam Eseh Reflects on First Year at Wigan Warriors, Loan Experiences, and Memorable Leeds Rhinos Debut

Wigan Warriors’ rising talent Sam Eseh has shared his thoughts on a whirlwind first 12 months with the club, detailing his development during loan spells and the unforgettable experience of his Super League debut against Leeds Rhinos.

Eseh, 21, joined Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2023 season and has quickly established himself as a promising forward. Despite limited first-team opportunities in his debut year, Eseh embraced the challenge, using loan stints with lower-league clubs to refine his game. “Those loan spells were invaluable,” he explained. “They gave me the chance to play regular rugby, build confidence, and test myself against tough opposition. Every game was a learning experience.”

The young forward credits Wigan’s coaching staff for guiding his progression and instilling a strong work ethic. “Wigan is a special club with high standards,” he said. “The coaching team pushes you to be your best every day, and that environment has helped me grow both on and off the field.”

A standout moment in Eseh’s first year came when he made his Super League debut against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium. Despite the high stakes and intense atmosphere, Eseh delivered a composed performance. “Playing at Headingley was a dream come true,” he said. “I’ve grown up watching games there, and to step onto that pitch was surreal. The crowd, the energy—it’s something I’ll never forget.”

Looking ahead, Eseh is determined to make a greater impact in 2024. “This year has laid the foundation,” he said. “I’m ready to take the next step and prove I belong at this level. I want to repay the faith Wigan has shown in me.”

With a strong debut season behind him, Eseh’s journey with Wigan Warriors is one to watch as he aims to cement his place in the Super League.
