Sané haved easily expressed frustration at Neuer’s mistake costing the team and him in particular

Bayern Munich’s clash against Bayer Leverkusen was a difficult one for the entire team as the Bavarians lost 1-0. But it may have been especially difficult for Leroy Sané, who was chosen as the sacrificial lamb to bring on goalkeeper Daniel Peretz after Manuel Neuer had been sent off. The German winger only had 17 minutes to leave his mark on the game before being unceremoniously hauled off, but he still had a positive view of the match:

Overall we played a good game,” Sané proclaimed in a post-game interview with ESPN sideline reporter Archie Rhind-Tutt, as captured by netsport. “The character we showed and the way the fans stood behind us was amazing. We can be proud of the character we showed, especially against a team like Leverkusen.”

When asked about how he saw the red card, Sané could have easily expressed frustration at Neuer’s mistake costing the team and him in particular. Instead, he refused to dwell on the incident:

“We don’t have to argue, it’s a red card. But it’s not Manu’s fault. It’s a 50-50 ball, this kind situation is uncomfortable for every goalkeeper. It’s first ever red card, despite his age. It happens. In the end, the way we dealt with it was the most important thing. It’s annoying that we got kicked out like this today, because, in the first 15 minutes [before the red card] we were running the game. It’s annoying, but you’ve got to look forward.”
