mingham City tried to land the Bundesliga.2 man in the summer following their relegation from the Championship. They slipped out of the second tier last season after finishing in the bottom three along with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town and are eyeing an immediate promotion back from League One.

Neumann, 27, was on the Blues’ radar as they looked to bolster their defensive department under the guidance of Chris Davies. However, they weren’t able to lure him over to England and he ended up staying put in Germany beyond the deadline.

The Midlands outfit have the chance to try again this winter and in this latest update regarding his future by Football Insider, they are still interested in snapping him up. His contract at the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena expires in June 2025.
If he was to join the third tier outfit in the next window, he would give them another option to pick from at the back.

The fact his contract expires at the end of this campaign means Hannover risk losing him for nothing if they don’t cash in on him in a couple of months’ time, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon.

Neumann has been with his current club since joining them back in 2022 and he has since made 76 appearances in all competitions, 11 of which have come in the league this term.

Prior to his switch there, the ex-DJK SpVgg Herten academy man rose up through the ranks at Schalke and broke into their B team as a youngster. He didn’t quite make the grade with their first-team though and left for permanent spells at FC Ingolstadt and Holstein Kiel.

The ex-Germany youth international is now facing an uncertain future.

What now?

Time will tell whether Birmingham City are able to strike a deal next time around.

They won 1-0 away at Sutton United of the National League over the weekend in the FA Cup and will face Blackpool away in the next round.

The Blues play Northampton Town at home in the league this weekend.
