Tariqe Fosu gave the visiting Cobblers a second-minute lead, but Tom Hamer levelled 16 minutes later.
Northampton’s Tyler Roberts picked up a second booking with 15 minutes left and then Ring slammed home on 88 minutes to lift the Imps into fifth.

Bolton, who moved sixth.
