Gary O’Neil must simply unleash ‘quality’ Wolves star who can save him his job vs Crystal Palace

Gary O’Neil has been dealt a selection headache as he prepares his Wolves side for their relegation six-pointer against Crystal Palace.

Wolves are looking to build on their performance against Brighton, coming back from behind to salvage a point thanks to goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha.

Cunha has since produced some iconic commentary on his goal against the Seagulls, with the 25-year-old eager to continue his fine start to the season at home to Palace.

The Brazilian has been the standout player for Gary O’Neil and he isn’t the only first-team star who impressed on the South Coast.

Pablo Sarabia must start against Crystal Palace

Pablo Sarabia has endured a frustrating start to the 2024/25 campaign, spending most of it on the bench or out of the squad completely.

As a result, Sarabia was linked with a January move to Sevilla only last week before starring in the stunning second-half comeback against Brighton.

The Spanish playmaker was brought off the bench at half-time, replacing captain Mario Lemina, and the 32-year-old completely changed the game.

Sarabia was praised as ‘quality’ by Andy Thompson after making 34 touches, three key passes and sending three accurate crosses into the box.

Wolves experts Liam Keen and Nathan Judah think Sarabia should be rewarded with a start against Crystal Palace, and that is exactly what O’Neil should do.

He should be unleashed down the right flank, giving him license to use his creativity and wand of a left foot to wreak havoc at Molineux.

After all, the former PSG man does rank in the top 14% of midfielders across Europe for progressive passes per 90, via FBref, so the Wanderers could with his creative influence to beat the Eagles.

Sarabia could still leave in January

As mentioned above, Sarabia has been linked with a January move to Spanish giants Sevilla, and there is a real possibility he could depart

Sarabia is 32, he’s the Wanderers joint-highest earner with Goncalo Guedes and his contract expires in the summer.

It’s highly unlikely O’Neil would renew the contract of a fringe player, especially for the amount he’s currently on (£90k-a-week).

Therefore, it makes more sense to cash in on the playmaker in January as opposed to letting him leave for free in the summer.
