Nottingham Forest are said to be remaining hopeful of Morgan Gibbs-White’s recovery from injury for the Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace immediately after the international break.

In the wrong place at the wrong time against Chelsea four days ago, the Forest midfielder was forced off after seemingly twisting his ankle. “I hope for the best,” Nuno Espirito Santo said.

The scan that quickly followed provided a result to mean that Gibbs-White had to pull out from what would have been his second call-up to the England senior squad for Nations League matches against Greece and Finland.

The 24-year-old has since returned to the East Midlands to begin his recovery – which The Athletic are now claiming the club feel can be a speedy one. Crystal Palace are the visitors when Premier League football returns on Monday, October 21, and they hope the captain can be involved.

This is because of the exact results of Gibbs-White’s scan. Supposedly he has only suffered a sprain at Stamford Bridge rather than any ligament damage, thus the seriousness of the issue is much less than first feared.

So the midfielder may regrettably not have been able to add to the senior international debut he made, but can take some comfort he won’t be sidelined for long.

If it turns out Gibbs-White is in fact losing the race to be fit for the meeting with Palace, he would have another four further days to get ready for Forest’s reunion with former boss Steve Cooper at rivals Leicester City.
