“Stupid!” the Patriots radio color commentator said as the clock ran out following a completion in bounds on the final play of the game.

Zolak then went off on the current state of the team, making a bold claim about how bad the loss was.

“This is the worst loss since Tom Brady left the Patriots, and there have been some bad ones,” he said at the end of the Patriots radio broadcast. “Maybe you start looking at tackles at the top of the draft next year, because that’s where you’re headed.”

Zolak, who is also a co-host of 98.5 The Sports Hub’s midday show alongside Marc Bertrand, followed up his end-of-game comments by going off on the current state of the team.

Zolak, a former Patriots quarterback, bashed the team’s coaching, particularly the play-calling from offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
But more than anything, he ripped the team for letting a winnable game slip away.
“The reason I bring up Tom is like, we’ve been doing this for how many years now? Where you come out of the gate, you’re starting slow. That was a game handed to you on a silver platter,” Zolak said. “They didn’t want to win that game, did Miami. You let them win.

Zolak took issue with quarterback Jacoby Brissett throwing a completion to Hunter Henry in bounds on a play that started with 12 seconds left on the game. The former quarterback said that NFL teams need at least 17 seconds to throw a pass in bounds and stop the clock — and that Brissett should know that.

Zolak and Bertrand then shifted their attention to the quarterback situation. Zolak admitted that the offensive line is “100%” still an issue. However, he doesn’t like what he sees from Brissett.
“The problem is, Jacoby is getting clocked every other play,” Zolak said. … “When they’re OK, and they kind of block it up, it’s almost like he gets fidgety because — ‘Do I have time? Is somebody coming behind me?’
Bertrand speculated that Jerod Mayo’s recent shift in his comments about the starting quarterback situation indicates that the team is ready to put Drake Maye in as the starter. It was a point Zolak went along with.
