Being in the ACC should be to Miami’s advantage. Several Big 10 and SEC teams will make the College Football Playoff and be seeded a few spots below their national ranking and where they are rated by metrics. As long as Miami keeps winning they should stay ahead of the Big XII leader in the projected CFP rankings.
Following their win at number 14 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Utah moves into the top spot in the Big XII passing Kansas State. Utah’s win in Stillwater is the most impressive in the Big XII in 2024. Louisville at Notre Dame on Saturday is the only other game likely to have an impact on the College Football Playoff projections next week. The winner between the Cardinals and Fighting Irish will earn a significant win in their quest for a CFP berth. Miami hosts Virginia Tech on Friday night to begin ACC play.
Miami is proving on the field that it belongs among the best teams nationally and not just as one that potentially qualifies for the College Football Playoff as the projected ACC Champion. The Hurricanes are the eighth-ranked nationally in the ESPN Football Power Index and the TeamRankings predictive metrics.
Miami is fifth nationally averaging 53.0 points per game and 13th allowing 8.7. Through three weeks of the 2024 season, Miami has been one of the most dominant teams. There was little movement in the top 10 of the week four national polls without any upsets or significant matchups.
