NONSENSE: Tottenham Hotspur make Cristian Romero decision amid Real Madrid links

Real Madrid have been linked with a few centre-backs in recent times thanks to the club’s need to strengthen in that area of the pitch after Nacho Fernandez’s exit this summer. On the other hand, David Alaba is still out of action as well, as he continues to recover from a long-term injury he suffered last season.

One of the players Real Madrid have been linked with is Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero. The Argentine is considered one of the best centre-backs in the world right now.

Romero has been an integral part of an Argentina side that has won three major tournaments on the trot, two Copa America titles and a World Cup. At the club level, he has found it difficult to compete for silverware at Tottenham Hotspur though.

Real Madrid have a history of signing great players from Tottenham Hotspur. Both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have gone on to write their names in the Los Blancos record books. Could Romero be next to do the same?

Tottenham Hotspur do not seem to be ready to part ways with their key centre-back though. In fact, they appear to be looking to make a move of their own.

As reported by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur want to agree a new contract with Romero. They will try to sit down with the Argentine defender next summer in a bid to fend off interest from Real Madrid and other top European clubs.

Someone like Romero could be a solid addition for Real Madrid. He has proven himself at both club and international level. Also, at 26 years of age, he is approaching his prime. He should be one of the best centre-backs in the world for the next 6-7 years if he can avoid injuries.
