Lyon and Marseille discussions ongoing for ‘joker’ transfer of Jordan Veretout
The transfer window ‘slammed’ shut last night across the major European leagues but in France, there is a special rule that allows for two teams within the country to make one additional transfer between French clubs. This is referred to as a ‘joker’ transfer. Lyon would have to use their ‘joker’ to sign Veretout from Marseille.
Veretout had been a key part of the Marseille squad since he joined the club from AS Roma in 2022. However, with a new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, and a new project at the club, the France international has been ostracised and placed in the “loft.” The midfielder was asked to find a new club this summer but was unable to secure a move away from Marseille.
Olympique Lyonnais have not given up on signing Jordan Veretout (31) from arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille, according to a report by RCM Sport Discussions are reportedly in progress between the two clubs and the veteran midfielder is thought to be open to the move.
