Birmingham City are closing in on a move for SPFL side Celtic midfielder Tomoki Iwata according to reports in Scotland.

The Blues have been active this deadline day already having seen a record League One bid rejected for the services of Jay Stansfield from Premier League side Fulham. However it would appear that their business is not yet over as they close in on Japanese international Tomoki according to Glasgow World.

The player arrived in 2022, initially on loan but then signed permanently after agreeing an option in their deal for a fee in the region of £1 million.

However the player has struggled to break his way into the club’s first team plans especially after the departure of former boss Ange Postecoglou, who had managed him at Yokohama prior to his move to the Scottish Giants. Now, the player could be heading for either a loan or a permanent deal, with the report claiming it is unclear at this time.

He has only managed 42 appearances, scoring once and contributing three assists.

The 27-year-old is a Japanese international making his debut in 2019, picking up four caps, with his most recent appearance coming in August 2022.

The Blues are keen to make the most of the final day of the transfer window having already added the likes of Alfie May, Marc Leonard, Willum Willumsson and Lyndon Dykes amongst others. They have also already raided North of the border for two players, Scott Wright and Ben Davies from Celtic’s Scottish rivals Rangers.
