Wolves targeting £11m-rated Chelsea ace after £26m Aston Villa ‘consideration’

Wolverhampton Wanderers want to sign a new centre-back before the transfer deadline.

Wolves are reportedly among several clubs interested in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah before the summer window slams shut.

The Old Gold are yet to replace Maximilian Kilman after his £40 million departure to West Ham United but want to address the issue. Bastien Meupiyou was recently signed for around £4 million but the teenaged Frenchman is an option for the future, not the present.

The Guardian reported this morning that Wolves remain interested in Chalobah, alongside Crystal Palace, Red Bull Leipzig and Real Sociedad. It’s stated that the 25-year-old’s chances of making a deadline day move are roughly 50-50, though he’s definitely not in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Chalobah has become a more regular starter for Chelsea throughout the past two or three campaigns but the new head coach seemingly prefers the likes of Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badisashile. All in all, Chalobah, who has a current market value of £11 million as per Transfermarkt, has made 80 senior appearances for the Blues.

Meanwhile it’s claimed by BBC Sports news that Wolves discussed the possibility of signing Diego Carlos from Aston Villa before turning away. The Brazilian, who cost Unai Emery’s side £26 million two summers ago, is expected to remain at Villa Park despite speculation.

The BBC Sport report also states West Ham United centre-half Nayef Aguerd was another potential option for Wolves. It’s said, however, that the Moroccan rejected the possibility of moving to Molineux despite no longer having a starting place at London Stadium.

Wolves are expected to continue their search for a new centre-back, with several available options to be weighed up before tonight’s 11pm deadline. Wanderers fans will be hoping the £10 million acquisition of Sam Johnstone and the imminent £22 million signing of Andre aren’t the only deals completed today.
