New York Post | Joel Sherman: In losing a series to the Nationals, the Yankees lost a chance to build any kind of lead atop the AL East standings, and heading into the Orioles’ final game with the Dodgers, New York has just one game on their divisional rivals. With the winner of the East almost certainly guaranteed to be one of the two teams that earn a bye in the AL playoff picture, the Yankees gain a substantial advantage by not settling for the Wild Card. We’ve been told all year the Yankees are all-in, but the last month is the proving ground.

Newsday | Anthony Rieber: The September roster expansion isn’t what it used to be, but MLB rosters do grow to 28 on the first of the month. One of those extra roster slots has to go to top prospect Jasson Domínguez, continuing to look strong in his rehab from elbow surgery. Jasson appeared in just one game for the Yankees this season, the “27th man” in a doubleheader, but he’s a much better offensive option than players getting regular time now … quite plausibly including the team’s starting left fielder.
