Birmingham City ‘in talks’ to sign midfielder from Championship club

Birmingham City are reportedly in talks to sign midfielder Taylor Gardner-Hickman from Championship side Bristol City.

Blues are in the market for a new midfielder after the departure of Wales international Jordan James and Gardner-Hickman fits the bill. The 22-year-old possesses some of the combative, physical attributes that James offered Blues before his switch to Rennes.

Gardner-Hickman only joined the Robins from West Bromwich Albion last summer, initially on loan before the move was made permanent in January. He made 22 starts in the Championship last season and a further 14 appearances from the bench.

But Bristol City boss Liam Manning has other options in midfield and is willing to let Gardner-Hickman leave. The Bristol Post reports Blues are in talks over a deal for the midfielder

If Gardner-Hickman signs he will become Blues’ 12th signing of an extremely busy summer transfer window. New boss Chris Davies has rebuilt the squad that was relegated last season with a series of additions.

Once a midfielder is signed, Blues are expected to prioritise a new centre-back and a centre-forward in the remainder of the window.
