Abdul Fatawu reveals what Steve Cooper did to inspire Leicester City fightback against Tottenham
Abdul Fatawu has credited Steve Cooper’s half-time team talk as the catalyst for Leicester City’s second-half performance against Spurs.
The 20-year-old had a helping hand in Jamie Vardy’s 57th-minute equaliser – he played a pinpoint cross onto the head of Vardy to level the scores. In the first half, the Foxes looked lethargic, sitting off Spurs who passed the ball at will.
However, Fatawu has revealed the new Leicester boss changed the feel around the dressing room at half-time. Speaking to Leicester City’s official website, he said: “It’s about the coach. In the second half, he spoke to us in the dressing room, how to get it easier for ourselves as a team. We did it and I think that’s why we came on in the game.
“Especially, how we played, it’ll give us more confidence. We know we can give more. This game will give us more tactics to learn. I think we are going to do more and show more to get better.”
The Ghanaian also spoke of his connection with Vardy. He said: “Anytime I get the ball, I think of him and where to put the ball for him to score. Fortunately, today, it happened it again and I’m so happy.”
Fatawu will be hoping his first Premier League assist will be a sign of things to come this season. The Foxes made it a priority to secure his signature on a permanent basis after an impressive loan spell last term – he registered six goals and 13 assists in Leicester’s Championship-winning campaign last term.
