Confirmed: Birmingham City sanction transfer move for 19-goal striker
Junior Dixon was left out of Birmingham City’s pre-season plans last month and a loan switch has now been confirmed
Birmingham City hot-shot Junior Dixon has joined National League South side Boreham Wood on loan.
The 19-year-old has been given the green light to head out on loan after being omitted from the first team’s pre-season plans. Dixon scored 19 goals for the under-21s last season after joining the club from Crystal Palace in 2023.
He reported for pre-season duty in July hoping to impress new manager Chris Davies but others were catapulted ahead of him. Davies instead called up Briar Bateman, 17, and Frank Tattum, 18, for the camp in Austria last month.
Dixon has signed for Boreham Wood on a season-long loan deal. The Hertfordshire-based club suffered relegation from the National League last season and will start next term in the sixth tier of English football for the first time since 2014.
Dixon was included in one first team squad last season, against Preston at Deepdale in September, but failed to make an appearance. The Londoner will taste senior football for the first time at Boreham Wood.
The striker said: “My chats with the gaffer [Ross Jenkins] made me realise the club suits my style of play and I just want to impress as much as I can.”
Boreham Wood are among the favourites to win promotion from National League South and have a history of developing strikers. Prolific non-league striker Kabongo Tshimanga, who almost joined Blues two years ago, first attracted attention whilst plundering goals for Boreham Wood between 2019 and 2021.
