Transfer approach made for Wolves, Brentford, Leicester, transfer target
A Championship club has held talks about signing Wolves transfer target Tommy Conway, according to reports.
Ron Walker, a journalist for Sky Sports, ‘initial talks’ have been held between Bristol City and Middlesbrough over a possible transfer. Conway has been training with the under-21s team after he snubbed a new contract offer with the Robins.
The 21-year-old has been Bristol City’s top scorer for the last two seasons with 24 goals in 81 games across all competitions. He caught the eye of many when he netted twice against West Ham, firstly to take the tie to a replay and then to knock them out in the FA Cup in front of the BBC cameras.
Talks of a move to another Championship club come after reported interest from the Premier League and the Scottish Premiership. In April, Sky Sports journalist Johnny Phillips said there was ‘genuine interest’ from Wolves, but now their position on the Scotland forward is unclear.
A striker is what Gary O’Neil wanted and he was able to get one earlier in the window. Jorgen Strand Larsen signed on loan from Celta Vigo with a €30 million obligation to buy.
Wolves were also reported to have offered a contract to Che Adams who was a free agent after he decided to leave Southampton. Conway’s international teammate opted for a move to Serie A instead. A centre-back remains the priority after Max Kilman’s sale to West Ham, but with the unpredictable nature of the transfer market, Conway could remain an option.
Conway is a completely different player to Adams, but is someone that could be ready to make the step up to the Premier League. Brentford, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest are also interested, as well as both Celtic and Rangers.
Last week, Bristol City head coach Liam Manning said ‘bits’ were going on in the background regarding Conway, and now Middlesbrough’s action has made for the first real approach. Up until Middlesbrough’s move, there was nothing concrete from any club in the forward, and so interest may have cooled which would give Boro an easier route to signing him.
